    About 670 Richmond Street WIndustrial Revolution II

    As if Trinity Bellwoods and Queen West weren’t fashionable enough already, the Industrial Revolution II and its sister building, Industrial Revolution I Lofts, provide the area with a residential hipster paradise. Built in 1950, the crimson brick structure scattered with classic, warehouse style windows was originally used as a depot for UK-based Decca Records.

    Like many industrial style structures still standing in the area, the building was once home to a clothing manufacturer. The chronicle of the aptly named Industrial Revolution II building, however, has been atypical of the rest. Although most of the fashion production industry made its moves away from the downtown core following World War II, the edifice at 670 Richmond Street West was in fact repurposed as a garment factory following Decca’s departure.

    When Bob Mitchell finally got his hands on 670 Richmond West in 1997, the building was converted into 12 authentic Toronto lofts, while its heritage was carefully preserved. Windows were broadened, with the brick utilized elsewhere in the lofts. For example, a barrier along the roof’s edge made use of the authentic material in order to create privacy for residents to enjoy their rooftop terraces.

    The Suites

    Toronto condos for sale within Industrial Revolution II span two or three storeys each, and range from around 1,000 to 2,000 square feet. These impressively sized homes provide ample space for residents to fashion home offices or studio spaces. Adding to this sense of space are the high ceilings, which vary from 12 to 20 feet tall. Exposed brick and ductwork also make for that coveted antique, industrial feel.

    Outdoor spaces are plentiful at Industrial Revolution II, with ground floor units boasting sundecks and those on upper levels enjoying rooftop gardens. Alternatively, residents of 670 Richmond West can stay indoors and light a fire in their fireplace when the weather worsens.

    The lofts also make great use of levels, with mezzanine bedrooms or dens in some, and raised living or dining rooms in others. This way, residents are provided with a level of privacy that is impossible in single level, open concept lofts.

    The Neighbourhood

    Only one block from Queen Street West, and within the equally historic and flourishing Fashion District, Industrial Revolution II is suitably placed for all types of residents. To start, businesses on Queen West cater to all sorts of needs. Commercial spaces include a lavish Loblaws, a mixture of dive bars and upscale eateries, some live music venues, an organic butcher, and more.

    For those looking to get more in tune with nature, a number of impressive parks surround 670 Richmond West. Stanley Park and Trinity Bellwoods are just around the corner, both boasting swimming pools and plenty of green space.

    Art fanatics will love the abundance of contemporary art in the area as well. In the Niagara area, it is possible to find oneself alone in a gallery — something unthinkable at larger institutions like the AGO.

    Transportation

    Although residents living at Industrial Revolution II won’t need a car, those who enjoy driving will love their proximity to the Gardiner Expressway. Those relying on public transportation, on the other hand, can hop on a streetcar along Queen West or Bathurst Street, both of which are moments from 670 Richmond West and run 24 hours a day.
